A little bit about me and my vocal journey...
Like many other singers, my love for singing emerged almost immediately. Even before I spoke, my parents witnessed me singing along to recordings that they played.
I gained the majority of my early singing experience in a professional children's choir (formerly the Berks Classical Children's Chorus, now the Berks Youth Chorus), in church (Lutherans sing lots of hymns!), in choirs at school, and through weekly private voice lessons, which I started when I was thirteen years old.
All of these activities helped me to sing often and with purpose throughout my developing years until I reached college (where I majored in Voice Performance) and I am absolutely certain that this large amount of supervised singing laid the foundation for the singer that I am today.
I was exposed early on, through these activities, to singing in a professional arena with area orchestras, conductors, and professional solo singers, and I was molded by observing them and their musical choices.
As I entered Middle School and High School I participated in all of the County, District, and Region Choruses, which accept singers based on auditions, and this helped me to gain a sense of what auditions are, how to prepare for them, and how they can lead to greater things.
Studying the Oboe and the Piano privately, as well as playing in my school's Band, Orchestra, and Marching Band, also helped me to learn vital skills like reading music and interpreting it, regardless of whether or not it had words to pronounce, which gave my singer brain a new perspective on my treatment of the melody and my place in the musical texture of a piece.
Basically, I've learned through experience, that the more you learn about music, regardless of whether it's specific to singing, the more your singing will benefit. But also that if you love singing, you should find every healthy and attainable singing opportunity that you can (just make sure you don't do something you're not ready for- like join a rock band with absolutely no previous singing experience), and try to participate as frequently as your schedule allows, because steady vocal development is based on consistent practice as well as your enjoyment of singing.
I received my Bachelor's of Music Degree, summa cum laude, in Voice Performance from Westminster Choir College of Rider University, and my Master's of Arts Degree in Voice and Opera, magna cum laude, from Hunter College, of The City University of New York. I have had the benefit of studying with world-renowned Voice teachers, Opera singers, Conductors, Stage Directors, Body Awareness experts, and Pianists, and this has enabled me to gain the high level of artistic ability that I use daily in my career as a professional singer. I pass the knowledge that I've gained from these experts on to you in your lessons, so that you don't have to travel the world to gain crucial insights into the nuances and intricacies of vocal technique and artistry- I've done it all for you! For the past 15 years, I have been happily teaching students of varying ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
I teach privately in addition to my professional singing career because I am passionate about discovering something new every day about the singing voice! I genuinely enjoy employing my curiosity, heightened kinesthetic sensibility, repertoire knowledge, emotional sensitivity, acting knowledge, and love of hearing different voices in each student's lesson. It is really exciting to me to be able to help a person uncover their voice's full potential! And, if I don't know something, I have access to many professional resources, where I can find the answers needed, so that you can continue to make steady progress on the path of your choosing!
I am also a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, as well as the Eastern Region, Lehigh Valley, and New Jersey chapters of NATS, so that I can offer you many different and rewarding opportunities to audition for prizes, gain recognition, attend Masterclasses, and perform in concerts- all of which will improve your singing!
